Did you know I can hang a Welshman
...found within Chester City Walls after midnight. Yes it's true and with Neil T living in Wales I often think I should exercise my right :-) To find out why I can do this and more follow this link... Hanging a Welshman is not really my style expecially when my ancestral links can be traced back to Mid Wales in the 1700's however the reason I apparently can do this is because I am a Freeman of Chester. This isn't to be confused with the Freemasons. The Freemen of Chester where the original merchants and Traders of the City; my Freedom came from it being passed down originally from my Great Great Grandfather. It is now more a historical and ceremonial position however the Freemen of the City are still very much involved in the Civic Roles of the City. I can even graze my sheep on the common! Do ask me more about it when we meet. When I was last in Chester for a Freeman meeting my uncle was over from Australia and I took him around Chester as it is a great City to visit (if you ever get the Chance it's worth a visit) We went through a Roman Garden and came out in a side street which had a Pub in it. Nothing unusual in that, however on a closer look it provided a wealth of marketing lessons in the boards and signs it had around it. If you take a look at the photographs belwo you'll see why. The owners of this pub know EXACTLY who their customers are, who they want in their pub AND who they don't want. Here's a pic of the pub itself.
Here's a list of their tongue in cheek rules...
And this is the sign that gave me a smile.
We went in and although I was certainly the youngest in the place the food was excellent and the beer was great. My Uncle really enjoyed it. The customers were a reflection of the 'rules' they had set out boards. I spoke to the landlord who said that although the younger customers drank more he preferred interacting with 'his type of people' because he enjoyed it more. If you know WHO you're customers are you can do the right marketing to bring them into your business. 5 people who know their customers VERY well are the speakers at this years UK GOLD EVENT held on September 18th, 19th and 20th Read more here and I urge you to register your place today. www.UKGoldEvent.com
